Onenote: Dark Mode Templates

I’ll admit that I’m not a darkmode user, but after a few requests I’ve decided to try experimenting with some page designs.

Currently Darklake comes in a variety of extra banner colors for added visual organization, while Saltmarsh and Out of the Abyss only come in red.

You can download them here

Note: if you’re shared the 3.2 (or later) version of the SRD then the notebook, it will have these included in the Templates area. These are not yet part of the download file from Dropbox.

  1. I don’t see a better contact spot than this; I have a question. I have made several derivative templates; under what license could I share these with others? I obviously don’t want to commercialize this.

    1. As long as it isn’t commercial, share away. If you do get a chance to mention what they’re based on then it would be appreciated.

  2. Hi!

I am using OneNote v. 16.37 on a Mac and am unable to download/use any of your templates. Will you be publishing mac-friendly versions anytime soon?

    Thanks !

    1. I do not have access to a Mac, so this is not something I can test.

Currently I can share the notebook directly through Onenote using an email address. I think this method has worked for Mac users in the past.

Alternatively, I was recently informed of a new method for exporting and importing notebooks as detailed here https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/export-and-import-onenote-notebooks-a4b60da5-8f33-464e-b1ba-b95ce540f309?ui=en-us&rs=en-us&ad=us
If you would like to try this approach, I have exported the notebook using these steps, which you can download here https://www.dropbox.com/s/ukt7z8higqiltwc/OneDrive_5e_SRD.zip?dl=0

If you try this and it works, I would appreciate you letting me know as it would make the notebook even easier to share going forward.

      1. Hey mate,

Just wanted to let you know this import/export process worked for me (using Onenote for windows 10)

        Cheers,

  3. Thanks for all the work that you do!

Is there a way that I can apply this dark mode template to the 3.2 SRD notebook without changing each page individually?

Also, I have been using your oneNote resources for years adn it has helped me to become a much better (and more organized DM).

    Thanks!

    1. Hello.

To the best of my knowledge, there’s no easy way to update a template like this across an entire notebook. Someone with programming experience might be able to come up with a script / onetastic macro that could change the xml block responsible for setting the background image (or at least have it automatically copy the page contents over to new pages with a different template applied), but I think with Dark Mode it would become even trickier since the pages will also require updated font/header colors due to how these values change when the mode is enabled.
